GIFAS sets out the real environmental impact of business aviation

Following statements by the Transport Minister and a member of parliament about business aviation — one calling for it to be regulated, the other for it to be banned — GIFAS provides a factual response.

In a statement, the French Aerospace Industries Association, which has more than 400 members, states that aviation as a whole accounts for 2% of global CO₂ emissions. Business aviation accounts for 10% of traffic and 2% of these emissions, i.e. 0.04% of global CO₂ emissions.

In France, business aviation accounts for 2.6% of the sector's global traffic, i.e. 0.001% of global CO₂ emissions. At European level, it accounts for 0.006% of these emissions.

GIFAS also points out that business aviation is a working tool for companies, its main users: 80% of flights operated in France are for business purposes, the remaining 20% being split between government, medical and private flights.

A safe, fast means of transport that complements others, it enables the economic development of regions thanks to a dense network of aerodromes. Many aircraft are also modified to carry out medical evacuation, special transport, flight testing, maritime surveillance or aerial photography missions.

Finally, the statement highlights the industry's contribution to CORAC research programmes aimed at decarbonised aviation, and the growing use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
